SPA… WHAT A TRACK!

It is the sort of place that takes your breath away before you even get out on to the track. I raced here two years ago in the Carrera Cup support race, but it is still a mega place to race at!

One of the things I love about racing in the World Endurance Championship is the epic tracks we attend – along with Spa and Le Mans of course we will also go to the Nurburgring and Fuji, and of course the prologue was at Monza. These are places I’ve dreamt about racing on!

The first round in Silverstone went really well. The feedback from the team was really positive, and I was relatively happy with my performance, particularly with how close I was to Ben. I know where I can improve and what I need to work on to close that gap.

So onto Spa! The weekend got off to a fairly challenging start with limited track time due to red and yellow flags interrupting the sessions on day 1. We obviously prioritise track time for our gentleman driver Mike Wainwright to ensure he is as comfortable as possible heading into the race. Unfortunately this meant that by the time race day came, I had done just 12 laps in the car!

Things didn’t really go to plan in the race. Unfortunately early in my stint I ran over debris which cut the wiring loom which resulted in a DNF. I’m massively disappointed for the team, but there are positives to take away from the weekend.

So now – on to the big one – the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June!

Before Le Mans, I will head back to Australia for the Pro-Am round of Carrera Cup Australia where I’ll be racing with Graham Williams. I’ve been working with Graham for a few years, right back from being a Porsche Centre Victoria ‘casual competitive’ club member! To have the opportunity to race with him in Carrera Cup is a real honour; hopefully I’ll be able to provide him useful tips over the weekend.

It will be great to catch up with everyone back at home, particularly the guys in the Carrera Cup paddock. The series was a massive part of my career and winning the Championship is still a highlight.
